Win 2000 problem over a WAN
A customer of ours has a WAN across the country, and has just replaced one of the PCs at a location with a newer one running Windows 2000. Previously it had 95 running.
Basically the problem is that they can't access files on it. They use a batch file from HQ to ping the PC and get any files that are waiting. This used to work fine with 95, but now with 2000, the PC at HQ finds the PC once, and can see the files once, but after that they can't access it at all.
Sorry for the vagueness of the description, but we don't maintain their network, so only have what was mentioned on a call to go by.
Any ideas? Apparently their IT personnel are, well, I can't type it in on here!

Null Session Shares
System Policies
make it easy and do it via ftp?
what OS is the client machine that is trying to retrieve the files?
If i was at work you would get a response of <insufficent information provided>

David, if you were at my work you would get shot for suggesting FTP, lol
Does pinging from each host to the other using both IP address and NetBIOS name (which is the batch using?) create an error when batch is not working? If it really works once, then fails, it's unlikely to be related to OS permissioning (which is static).
Richard
PS: W2K is only insecure for those silly enough not to maintain it
