That'll cost you a fortune for a start... using mobile phones as a modem is not charitable Or do you mean use the mobile to access the net direct from the phone? You need to have that enabled via your service provider - well, I did anyhow. Check that they have you set up to send and recieve data. I pay around £5 per megabite I think... about the same as 200 plain text emails so they say.

Soulgirl are you talking about GPRS?

Because I get the impression Tony is just talking about using his phone as a 9.6k modem. Tony what OS are you using? With 2000 and Xp its a piece of pi$$.

Once IR has been turned on on the phone and it put in range of the laptop it should pop up saying infrared device connected etc.

It should have also created an additional modem based on your phone (6100). Check in the Control panel.

Once this is done amend your usual Dial-up networking connection (or create a new one) and on the general tab, select the 6100 modem instead of the built-in modem. Click ok and then double click to start connection. Pop in your useranme and password and you are away.

Be warned, its very slow (roughly 5 times slow than a 56k modem) but it can be very very hand some times, the last time I used my 6100 as a modem was when I was stuck in traffic on the M25. Laptop and phone on passenger seat planning another route home

If you need anymore info let me know.

I wasnt quite sure what he was really asking... thats why I asked.

Using a mobile as a modem is mega expensive though isnt it.. and as you say, painfully slow!

I always thought that using your phone as a modem (i.e NOT GPRS) was charged at the same rate as a land line.

When I have to dial-in to work, I connect through our own CISCO firewall and all calls are charged at 0845 (local rate).

And yes its slow
