Unexpected MFT record
further to my disc problems, I have managed to run a data recovery tool which on scanning the NTFS volume has come up with around 10 errors saying:
Unexpected MFT record 63220 at 17140092928
obviously the numbers change, but is this fixable? chkdsk runs and reports no errors!
Partitionmagic check reports too many errors and exits.

anyone know any tools that can me with this? I can "see" the files on my PC using this same tool, but it reports errors like MFT record child's claimed parent mismatch, aborting

I Googled on 'mft' and 'disk problems'. One that came up was http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q315688 not sure if it'll help your case.
This lot: http://www.dpcc.net/main.html will recover said disk for a fee...
