cisco 805 conf problem
ok i got this router, have erased the running conf and startup conf so its baclk to a basic nothing on it, I want to upgrade the ios via a tftp.
I conf eth0 to have an ip address, make sure its not down. I am connected into teh router from my serial to console port of the router. I then connect eth0 to the network card of the same pc which is also running the tftp server, I cannot get them to communicate.
things seem weird as the router has a little switch on the back hub or not hub, however when u connect router to pc, it should be a crossover as far as im aware? but with the switch to no hub I have to use a straight through cable to see the 2 are connected, and the other way around when u change the switch. The pc will get an ip, but even then, I Cant ping either way, is tehre something i have forgotten? i got a bit rusty since my icnd course.. if someone can be so kind as to talk me through getting the two to communicate i would appreciate it.
I also have a 1900 switch and 2500 router, i want to replicate the labs i did in my icnd course, will have core_ro, workgroup_ro and workgroup_sw eventually when i get all ios upgraded

hmm, not entierly sure what you mean. To console in you should be using a rollover cable. Coming from E0 you should be using straight Cat5. Here are your commands for the router.
>enable
#erase nvram
#reload
>enable
#conf t
#int e0
#ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
#no shut
Don't forget to password protect enable, con, vty etc... using 'secret' to encrypt!!!
E0 should then ideally go into a switch or a hub.
You computer should be configured with and IP of 192.168.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 192.168.0.1
I'm just picking these IP's as there easy. If your considering using CDIR & VLSM I'll leave that down to you.
If your going to add another router via S0 make sure you set up your clock rate on DCE, using a routing protocol like EGIRP or RIPv2 and enable the networks.
Once you can ping the machine, I would then backup the current IOS onto a TFTP enabled machine
copy flash tftp
Now load new IOS
copy tftp flash
Hope that helps. I don't come on here as often as I used to, so hopefully someone else can follow on from here if yo have any more questions.
Hi to all the other IT geeks, stevecotton etc...
Mr. Cookie, hows the Linux going?
I mailed you back telling you to give me a call as you said, but you didn't reply.

ok i got alot further since the last time, managed to update all the ios's ok this is the current setup, still have small problem
why do i get the ip address overlaps with e0 when trying to config e1 to an ip address on teh same network
for example
workgroup_ro is
e0 192.168.8.1 255.255.255.0
when i try to config e1 to be
192.168.8.10 255.255.255.0
i get the error that it overlaps?? do i have to put different ports on different networks?? if i do, tehn i tried to put e1 onto 192.168.9.1 ok that works, then i connect to e1 with another router, e0 ip address 192.168.9.2 can ping to e1 of workgroup_ro 192.168.9.1 but cant ping any further....
hope that makes sense, basically it can get to the other end of the cable, thats it... sorry if thats confusing and much appreciate all the help
thanks

yes, very confusing, your posts are hard to read.
E0 and E1 need to be different networks.
You should be connecting routers via the DTE/DCE cables accross the serial ports. (S0 > S1)
This too needs to be on a seperate network address. (e.g. S0 192.168.20.1 > S1 192.168.20.2)

i am trying to connect 805 router to 2500 router. The only method i have for that as the 805 has no serial is
out of e0 on the 805 into aui to rj45 tranceiver connected to e1 on 2500 should this work??
about the other problem
on the 2500
e0 is set to 192.168.8.1
when i try to set e1 to 192.168.8.anything it gives the conflict, about overlapping
both e0 and e1 on the 2500 are aui ports, and i use aui to rj45 tranceivers to convert them.
sorry for the confusion, appreciate the help, hope that makes it more clear
thx

heh.
Its cool to be a geek in todays society. That word has come a long way since 70's America. I suppose nerd is following suit too.
I'm a nerd and a geek!!! lol, you'd have got your face smashed in for that back then.

Yeah, although I think 'nerd' has negative connotations rather than 'geek'. I know some people that actually want to be a geek but they don't know anything technical, geek wannabes, who'd have thought it
I have to get back to hacking!

ok next problem, all devices are communicating, im trying to upgrade the ios on the 805, however i get a problem, the e0 port is up and has an ip address, i can ping the tftp server, then if i wait a while try to ping again i get a message saying
zero mac address for 192.168.8.10 in arp cache
if i shut down and no shutdown the e0 on the router they can communicate again,...?? any reason for this??
