Angry Messenger messages

I just upgraded to XP and now every minute or so I keep getting messenger windows advertising drugs **** and all sorts of other products.

I installed a pop up killer type application but they still pop up just enough to be distracting before they disappear.

Never had this problem with Windows 98 what do I do?

Right click My Computer and select manage
Click on Services and Applications
Click on Services
Scroll down to Messenger
Right-click on it and select properties
Change the start-up type to Disabled
When you restart the machine, you will get no more pop-ups

I'll not pretend I knew as I had to find out from "Scooby Dooby Blue" the other day there.
But I did look as if I knew what I was on about there for a min eh

If you've just upgraded to XP then I recommend a visit to www.grc.com]Gibson Research[/url] - they have some good free utilities that close down most of the big security holes in XP. I would get 'DCOMbob' and 'socketlock'. Also useful is leaktest - to test your firewall and an autmated version of the instructions given above to stop Messenger called 'Shoot the Messenger'
