I agree Far Cry looks good, you might also want to try Vietcong or Call of Duty.

The game I am waiting to play must be Half Life 2.

I have pre-ordered Far Cry from Gameplay.

Looking forward to it!

Just make sure you have a good graphics card, good cpu and at least 512Mb RAM.

Erm, have you looked at the minumum specs on the box.....

Video Card: 128 MB GeForce 4 128 MB to GeForce FX 5950; ATI Radeon 9500-9800 XT

If you have a 64Mb graphics card, it won't run (or at least, not properly).

Ran this on a Dell Dimension P4 2.4Ghz, 1Gb RAM and a 128Mb 4200 card. Had to set mine at Medium to avoid any drops in frames in heavy scenes.

You really need the top-of-the-range cards to run it on very high detail.

Fantastic game and I really enjoyed completing it on Medium.

I don't think that's the minium spec - perhaps recommended.

My brother's playing it with my old Hercules 64Mb nVidia-based card and it works fine, but again all settings are set to low.

Oops, my mistake, (I read the spec from gameplays web site). I did try it on my old laptop with a 64Mb nVidia gfx card, and it wouldn't even start. Works fine on my new laptop though (128mb Radeon 9600).

running far cry in high res mode on my pc and it's fabbo.. it's a very long game (not even finished it all yet) and is challenging..

arseing about in the boats running over baddies with the prop a la Kirsty MacColl is soo funny. Also like the ATV's and hang-gliders...

hangs head in shame and shuffles away.................

I still wouldn't try and run it on a 64Mb card though. You'll be missing so much of the nice gfx / effects etc that are the game trademark. The athmosphere won't be half as good....

Have to agree. 128Mb is the real minimum. I set it to High and it looks absolutely stunning. Pity even walking around drops the FPS to unbearable levels.

Hanglider (spelling) is cool and the heavy footsteps from the HUGE baddies are very spooky - especially in the jungle when you can't see the ******* coming at you

Cool

Built a new pc to run this game, radeon 9800 pro, 1 gig ram, athlon 2800 and it runs a treat at 1024 x 768 with everything maxxed except anti aliasing which is set on medium. I run it through my 44" telly with dolby digital sound through my home cinema setup and it is just amazing. Easily the best graphics I have ever seen. I am playing it at maximum difficulty with the adaptive AI on (cos I am a FPS god) and boy is it hard, took me about twenty attempts to finish the rusty boat level especially the end bit with the helicopter to get the dinghy.
Half life 2 is going to have to be pretty special to better this game.

I've got to a level (a long way into the game) where I'm on a sinking ship (I just blew a hole i it) and I've got to try and take out a helicopter that's firing at me. Tried it loads of times, but I just can't seem to work out a method of doing it without dying rather quickly.

Anyone completed this? Any tips?

Radeon 9800PRO is the best u can get for that. 256mb XTs will fall to around that price soon as well.

Yeh the PRO is still a top flight card, but the best card is now the X800 and then the XT 256 is next, then the PRO, SE or normal 9800/9600 etc. So u can pickup the PROs for around the 120-150mark. I wouldnt go for anything other than a SE or PRO card at least though. I have a XT256 Gfx card market is cutthroat, things progress very fast.

Ok , run off the back of the ship ( igonore running to the front , its too open ) , there is a outcrop to the right hand side of the ship on its side , swim to that. You will loose some health in the explosion.

Hide in the bushes , use the rocket launcher , you will need around 10 direct hits to the mini gun area to kill the dude

HTH.

As soon as you blow the ship, jump off the front and swim towards 2 Palm trees. Once there, keep firing at the Helicopter whilst using the palms for cover.
