Unhappy Burning movies to disc - arrgghh!

I've tried Nero Express and Movie Factory 2 but I still can't get avi files etc converted and burnt to disc with sound. The nearest I got was one film that had most of the sound and then it went out of sync.

What am I doing wrong? Tried DVD-r and VCD.

I'm fed up with all these shiney coasters...

All those sites are poor. They assume you know a fair bit about ripping. The guides are either vague to too in depth. I've downloaded lots of stuff (tmpg, dvd2avi, gordian knot, flaskmpeg etc.)

Currently I can rip some vobs onto my HDD. I can burn to CD(vcd etc.) but have I yet figured out how to turn the vobs into mpeg files? have I bu66er! All I want to do is select the vobs, click on a button or two, wait and hey presto an mpeg file.

I think the closest I got was flaskmpeg which crashes (it just stops) after creating 2 minutes of mpeg file (which even then is out of sych with the audio). after fiddling with settings (which aren't exactly intuitive) I can get the audio in sych but can still only create 2 minutes of mpeg.

It's like getting in a car and not being able to find the steering wheel or gearlever. The car has all the electric gizmos going and is immensely powerful and great handling but it's all irrelevant if you can't steer or change gear.

I can burn most video into VDC, SVCD and DVD but can't get the sound with Moviemaker. Nero Express is hopeless at both unless its your own camcorder video/pics etc. but it's good at varying compression rates

Floyd - I'm a little confused as to what you want to achieve ?

So you have an avi (I'm assuming Divx, which plays with good sound on your PC ?) and you want to convert it onto a DVD ? If so, then NeroVision Express does the job (Not Nero Express).

You also mention Moviemaker & Movie Factory 2 ?

Let me know what you want to do and I'll try to help.

Step-by-step guides with pictures on: DVD-R Help

There are various conversion guides, along with which freeware applications to use.

DJ, it's downloaded AVI and DIVX movies and any other formats. They play on the PC OK but I have trouble burning to VCD/DVD successfully. Moviemaker2 takes ages to convert and burn and I nearly always end up with video but no sound! Sometimes the DIVX stuff works but will only play back on the PC! Will Nerovision express 2 do it all? It sounds good on the spec.

Andy, thanks I'll have a read of DVD-R help.

Cheers

Where are you downloading the files from, if it's kazza that may be the problem.

Also are you trying to play the discs in your standalone dvd player because the player might have trouble reading the discs.

NeroVision Express is a good tool and does the job nicely Personally I play mine back on my XBox, but a mate uses this all of the time to convert his to DVD for playback on his standalone DVD player. All work no problem, and great quality too.

You will occasionally get a corrupt avi which may halt the conversion process, but most will work fine. Get GSpot to check that you have the correct codecs and NeroVision Express will do the rest.

DivX films normally have MPG3 audio this is why your sound is going out of sync. First of all download Virtualdub, its free and a great tool. Load your file into Vdub and it will give you all the info about your file. Depending on the audio you will prob have to save the file as a wav file. Download TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 you can use this free for 15 days. Load your file into TMPGEnc and then load the wav file into the audio section, then create the necessary MPG file with TMPGEnc. Now download TMPGEnc DVD Author(30 days free). Load your file into DVD Author and create your .vob files. You then load all of the files created into Nero5 and create your DVD. Any problems email me and i'll try to help peteryearsley1@yahoo.co.uk

Nero express is useless for burning DivX and AC3 audio encoded avi's IMHO.

Go to the Authoring section of this forum for loads of info http://forum.digital-digest.com/

NeroVision Express . . . .NOT Nero Express

It has no problem with AC3 audio or MP3 audio, no out-of sync issues either.

Oh, forget it

Hmm just seen that,no need for the sarcasm though My way does work though allthough it is a bit long winded. I think i'll give NeroVision Express a go now,if it doesn't work i'll be back to shout at you

Sarcasm is my middle name No offence meant

I've always used combinations of VirtualDub, TMPGEnc, Gordian Knot and the like and always found it more hassle then its worth TBH. NeroVision Express is a good noob friendly way of doing the same job all-in-one Worth a look I reckon.

No offence taken I've just downloaded it now and it seems promising. I loaded a 1h55m film into it and it says its too big for the disc. It then asked if i wanted to reduce the quality automatically to make it fit,i said yes but it couldn't do it. It then said to reduce it manually, how do i do this? It loaded a shorter film no problem but i've already burnt that

I use Mainconcept to encode as a VCD, SVCD, or DVD, does the sound as well (not AC3). You can enable file splitting so you have files of 700 Mb which can be burnt with Nero. Generally VCD needs two disks, SCVD three or 1 DVD. DVD's a bit more hastle as the resulting mpg needs authoring, then buring. DVD media can be a bit hit and miss.

Just had a quick peek . . .

Click More, Video Options, DVD-Video Tab, Quality Setting.

Choose Custom and you can change the bitrate, resolution and encoding mode Or one of the presets.

Don't have coasters Just make sure you check all software settings thoroughly and if unsure, write to file and check before burning
