Stupid question from Muppet

Right, not really pc'd up I'm afraid (can use the software but thats about it). Looking to geta laptop on ebay. Most of the pc's are from the US and elsewhere are they UK compatable in terms of operating and power etc.

Your help for this muppet is needed

I think you will just need to buy a new charger/mains if you buy from the us.

why buy from the US when you can get quality Laptops here ?

They may be a bit cheaper, but try and get a US spec / Name laptop repaired in the UK.
