Intermittent NIC failure
We've got an Evesham Micros PC with a 3COM NIC. Sometimes it boots and recongnises the NIC, sometimes (more so recently) it doesn't. Device manager reports the NIC is there but that it is not working properly. Uninstalling then scanning for new hardware sorts the problem but why's it happening? Is the NIC on its way out? On top of that our other office has an identical PC and that has started doing the same thing today.
Both running win2k and SP4
Anyone any ideas?
TIA
Mark

is the nic onboard or pci??
If i's a pci card I would swap it with the one in your other computer..
I would'n rule out a OS problem, have a simliar problem with other devices I know work!, as you have found you can temporally 'see' the device by using the add new hardware wizard..
If this is the case go down the updating drivers path etc... use one from the 3com site not windows update..
Hope that helps
