About to buy this pc from special reserve
Almost ready to hand over some cash for this pc, primarly used for games and uni work when i really have to do some.
I have never had any problems with special reserve, just wondered if anyone on here has bought one of these and if they had any comments?

Cheers, if all goes to plan, after having the scoob sorted by knowelsy on friday, I can pick this up on my way home!

Seems very expensive for the SPEC.
I've got a dual processor 2x3ghz on 800mhz asus board p4's with same graphics card spec, 19" monitor etc wireless optical desktop with bluetooth.
And 2gb of DDR400 memory
For under £1000

I tend to find that as Special Reserve are somewhat a highstreet retailer, you can get better value machines elsewhere. As mentioned, all depends on what you want for your money, but I think the guys on here will be able to source you a better machine for your cash.
I'd have a look but there are so many places selling these days, I just can't be arsed

looking to spend up to £1500 max really, i have been looking at overclockers, alienwares, and special reserve etc. the maxx pc did get a good write up from pc gamer.
What im basically after is a decent gaming rig that can cope with the odd word document :P
im contactable on mfitz_hop@hotmail.com if anyone has any other comments or suggestions, I should be getting a call from SR some time today to let me know when the next A64 machine will be available.

A £1000 for the same spec using decent parts and inc VAT?
An Athlon 64 3400+ is circa £250, 1GB RAM on cheap stuff (like AData) is £100, a 9800XT 256MB is £240. I've just rattled off a pretty similar spec from OCUk who I consider to be competative and that comes to £1467 inc VAT.
Kernel - very true!
Dual CPUs means Xeons, so that's £600+VAT for 2 x Xeon 3.06Ghz. Xeon's with 800Mhz aren't out yet AFAIK, it's 533Mhz only.
Then 2GB of DDR 400 is going to be at least £200 for cheap stuff. Corsair or HyperX will be closer to £350+VAT.
A 9800XT 256MB is going to be £240+VAT. So add them up:
CPUs - £600
RAM - £200
Video - £250
So that's £1050+VAT before monitor, case, HD, keyboard/mouse etc etc. Did you get a free pair of oven gloves with it?

lol i thought it wasnt a bad price, was a bit shocked, but saying that the people that can make this cheaper i imagine are making the pcs themselves so there would be no where near enough labour costs as a retail outlet.
overclockers were very similar cost wise and spec, but it took me 5 attempts to get someone on the phone to discuss it, special reserve straight through every time.

sorry it did have a onboard sound and lan and mouse and keyboard, the dvd rw is also a cd rw aswel, it does include modem, it has all the usual basic equipment lan modem and sound are all included, and well a xp licence is included if needed, the monitor is better and the mother board is better so its sort of a trade off! sound card and speaker can be brought at about £100 and so in total about £1000, a seperate dvd cdrw is about £25 but the point is a 3400 athlon is slightly faster and the hard drive on the maxpc is 160 gb, but will you use that much? erm...no 160gb is definantly overkill but its easy to make the same spec and cost about £300-£500 cheaper, but its still a fast machine and all the parts are brand new
