Default Uninstall / Remove Javascript from WinXP

Both my browsers IE6 and Netscape 7.1 are having real problems dealing with any web pages using javascript (eg. popup javascript windows not working etc)

I don't employ any popup stoppers or similar

Can someone help me uninstall or update the javascript component in WinXP to help me get over these errors ?

Sonic - I am! In fact I've tried various different versions.

Although, aren't I right in saying javascript is actually different to java?

Right now I have Sun Java installed
I have latest Netscape Navigator not working with "JAVASCRIPT"
I have latest IE6 SP2 not working with "JAVASCRIPT"
I have latest Opera not working with "JAVASCRIPT"

Specifically, the problem arrises when a page is trying to do a MM_open_brwindow - open a pop window with some stuff in it. Its not the actual code on the page cos I can open the pages no problem using browsers at work - it seems my javascript component on my home machine is somehow knackered

Like I said, this problem is surfacing regardless of what browser I'm usng and its starting to really hamper my surfing.

Anyone explain this ?

Is there a common javascript component in winxp that all browsers rely on and how do I update it / reinstall it so it works properly!

dont know about Netscape.. but there are security settings for IE.
You could try lowering them.

I dont think that Java is related to Javascript.

Have you gone into the options on your browser and specifically told it to use Sun Java instead of MS Java

Im not 100% sure on the Java & Javascript relationship

Incidentally which versions of Java have you tried, I have personally found 1.41 to be the most stable for a variety of apps

Also have you tried doing a full re-install of IE6 ? I know you cant remove it from XP, but you should be able to do a full re-install

SCOSaltire, check security - isn't that

Sonic, I'm on IE6SP2 - where do I tell it to use Sun over MS Java ?

I'm running 1.41 Sun Java right now.

Haven't reinstalled IE6 cos all the other browsers have the same problem (netscape, opera, etc) but may give it a go

set everything back to DEFAULT

Question: Does every browser you install into WinXP (eg. Opera, IE6, Netscape) use a common Javascript component ?

This seems the case to me cos all my browsers are behaving the same way when confronted with javascript webpages!

i see.. sorry..
not sure then... preferences --advanced -- scripts & plugins in netscape?
Also netscape has its own pop-up blocker/manager.
Since the're all affected, u're not running a firewall/anti-virus or something with script blocking etc?
