Unhappy Some keys stopped working on Dell Inspiron 2650 Laptop!

Last night my laptop totally froze while i was on the 'net and i had to remove the battery so i could turn the laptop off. I switched it back on and it all started up ok but now some keys dont work, these are: F1,F2,F3,3,E,D and C. Ive plugged an external keyboard in and this works fine. Has anyone got any ideas what has happened and how i can fix it ?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Dell laptops and dodgy keyboards (with those keys non-funcational) is a well known problem. Call out Dell support to get a new keyboard fitted. IIRC, they can run just hot enough to melt the solder on joints in the keyboard mechanism.

The laptop isnt under warranty anymore and ive contacted dell support but they are rather unhelpful to say the least! Is there no way the keyboard can be repaired ?

Usually the keyboard is an easy swap, just download the service manual for your machine (if available-HP/Compaq ones are easy to get maybe dell are too) for the procedure then order a replacment part. Will be alot cheaper than getting some robbing computer shop to do it for you.

Give the bloody keyboard a clean! Get a can of compressed air and give it a damn good squeeze!

I wonder if you will find nail clippings amongst other nasty things expelled
