Default Microsoft Source Code

Does anyone else think the dimwit who wrote this is not very computer savvy. This same article was on about page 3 or 5 of the Sunday Times yesterday.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFr...001671,00.html

A few choice quotations. He keeps talking about source code as "codes", like they're a set of numbers or something

"AN investigation into who leaked the internet’s holy grail — the source codes for Microsoft’s software ... About 90% of Britain’s home and office computers depend on the codes, making them theoretically vulnerable to hackers."

"Hackers have long been desperate to get hold of the codes, likened by experts to Coca-Cola’s secret formula ..." Which experts are these I wonder?

could be not computer savvy... or could just be dumbing it down for the mostly non-techie audience... or could be both.

Thumbs up

in the hope of finding loopholes that will enable them to access other people’s machines or design destructive viruses
LMAO! You mean like they have done *without* access to the source code, they exploit weaknesses in the OS architecture without having to know how its written. Still agree the numpty who wrote it was dumbing it down for general consumption. Perhaps they should release the code to universities to give students an idea of poor coding???

Exclamation

Watch out, I'd advise against downloading the source code. Microsoft are very protective of their intellectual property and will aggressively seek out those who have illicitly obtained it. It's not worth the risk.

As asked before, lets not get SN into trouble talking about d/loading this software. We're not allowed to assist people in doing so.

By all means rip the P out of Microsoft though

(but no libel )

Thanks

Wink

I hear their most important code is safe though.
The code for the 'Blue Screen of Death' is safely stashed on a tape and stuffed down Bill Gates' undies!!

Somehow I think that the reporter hasn't got a clue about computers, sine when do you "download" to a "CD ROM"

The stolen codes were “compressed” to a size small enough for them to be downloaded onto a CD-Rom by anyone with access to the machine.
