Flashback - Amiga A500
Sifting through my loft last night I came across my old Amiga A500 along with about 200 games.....WooHoo!!
Alas it keeps crashing when using it and I now remember that this was the reason it was thrown up in the loft in the first place many years ago.
The question is can I get it repaired anywhere??? I had the same thing happen along time ago and I got it fixed then, does anyone know anywhere where I may be able to take it for repairs?? (preferably in the Essex/South East area)

I had the same, found my old Atari ST up in the loft that also kept crashing whilst playing it. I found as it started to get hot it'd just die, no matter wot I woz playing.
I fitted a cooling fan blowing straight onto the heat sink of the PSU, all fine afterwards.
Played it for 2 days then stuck it back in the loft.
Or you could always get yourself an Amiga emulator, probably cheaper for 2 days usage.

Shaddow of the Beast dont think I still have that one but definately a class game Never got into Wings although did play it and also It Came From The Dessert was excellent if its what I am thinking of - where the ants invade everywhere and you have to be the little bloke in overhead view running around???
Think I have or at least hope I have speed ball 2. Xenon never got into as was never into the space invaders arcade type thing. Did own it though as graphics were excellent
I can't believe I have forgotten all these games, they were class titles in their day Worst of all is that I sold a load of them at a boot fair - ggggrrrrrrr

Xeno 2 had the most weapons of any scolling Shooter that was around, but what I remember it most for was the thumping sound track using Bomb the bases "Mega Balst on precinct 13" and all the sampled sounds.

a company in Germany still makes the amiga - though not under the commodore banner. All hardware 68040 accelerators etc and there is a new workbenk and kickstart rom - all of which run on my PC just fine.

The other thing I remember is getting through at least one joystick a week through utter anger at not being able to win the game or complete the level
Anyone else have an unhealthy appetite of destroying joysticks out of sheer frustration? I should have taken out shares in the company that made the quickshot range

Does anyone know if you can transfer old Amiga stuff on 880K disks onto PC ? I know a PC floppy drive can't read them, so can it be done without an Amiga.
I say this because I've got loads of stuff on Amiga disks in me loft.

chrisowe - a PC can't read an Amiga floppy without extra hardware.
The Amiga, on the other hand, can WRITE to a PC floppy disk. Just do a search on the net for an app to do it.

A PC can't read an Amiga disk full stop. It's physically impossible because of the PC disk drive. An Amiga can write to a double density PC format floppy, not a high density (unless you have an upgraded floppy drive for your miggy), so you're limited to 720KB. You can compress Amiga files (with LZH say) on the PC and uncompress at the other end, otherwise your best bet is par/sernet - unless you have ethernet of course.
Formatting a HD floppy to 720KB (with the /4 switch under DOS, was it?) will result in fragmentation, you need DD's ideally. I think CrossDOS comes with OS3.x so you should already have the capability.
Be careful wiring an Amiga's serial port to a PC if you go the sernet route, it's not 100% standard and you can blow the controller. There's loads of documentation online for setting it up.

The original Kempston Competition Pro was the best joystick, ever
Who else upgraded to 1mb and thought it was rapid!!!
I've still got a couple of external disk drives and I even have an external Hard drive with an extra 4Mb of RAM in my one!! It was awesome.......for an Amiga.
Oh how I wish I could get it repaired!
