Registering Websites With Search Engines ?
My website will be just about finished by the end of the week - how do I go about geting it registered on search engines such as yahoo/google etc ?
I've looked on Google.co.uk and couldn't find anything there
Also, what is the best way of getting it to the top of the listings ? Is it just a matter of waiting until it gets lots of hits, or can I pay to "bump" it up ?
Many thanks,
Matt

Try using service like http://tools.addme.com/servlet/s0new to submit to search engines.
Don't use any mass submission software that promises to submit you to '100,000 search engines' this is more likely to get you banned
As for getting to the top of search engines, this can be a very tough process and will involve a lot of research and is never guranteed due to the constant change in search engines methods of displaying results, checkout www.searchengineforums.com
You can pay for the 'adwords' on google (these appear down the right hand side in the coloured boxes) the prices for these listings start at 5p and can cost quite a lot.

check out www.toppile.co.uk they offer a very cost effective submission service and give you a report every two weeks. As stated anything automatic doesnt work too well, its still a fairly manual process to get effective listing positions.
