Hello fellow Xbox/XBMP'ers
I've managed to get a samba share working from my XBOX to a share on one of my XP workstations. It was a bit of a pain to get working as config.xml suggests you construct the URL as follows:

if you are not using a Domain controller this should ACTUALLY be:

I've also found that even if I set the DNS server address it still seems to struggle to resolve the computer name - so IP Address only works for now.
My 'Audio' share is basically the contents of my iTunes driectory - this means about 2100 files organised into directories (Artist/Album etc)
Now if I point my Xbox URL at this directory XBMP seems to stall and nothing happens. If I create another share with only a single directory and a handful of MP3 files it works a treat.
Have my cachesize set to 16K
Any ideas folks ???
This is XBMP from the slayer 2.5 and EVOX install.
Regards
Ian

XNS, Relax ??? tell me more
can I run the relax server on the pc in conjunction with XBMP ??? if so its worth a try. Trying to get my chill room in a state where I can really chill LOL
I wonder if some of my problems are restrictions in samba for file naming.
I have a subdirectory with 17 mp3s in my little test share and that hangs XBMP (so bad I have to stand up and reset the Xbox by hand and not using the controller/bios)
Weird as.

Relax works great on mine too, 60Gb of MP3's, thousands of files and it doesn't miss a beat
Just set it to run as a service on your PC and forget about it
