Hello fellow Xbox/XBMP'ers

I've managed to get a samba share working from my XBOX to a share on one of my XP workstations. It was a bit of a pain to get working as config.xml suggests you construct the URL as follows:

<url>smb://username:password@workgroup/computer/share</url>

if you are not using a Domain controller this should ACTUALLY be:

<url>smb://user:password@computer/share/</url>

I've also found that even if I set the DNS server address it still seems to struggle to resolve the computer name - so IP Address only works for now.

My 'Audio' share is basically the contents of my iTunes driectory - this means about 2100 files organised into directories (Artist/Album etc)

Now if I point my Xbox URL at this directory XBMP seems to stall and nothing happens. If I create another share with only a single directory and a handful of MP3 files it works a treat.

Have my cachesize set to 16K

Any ideas folks ???

This is XBMP from the slayer 2.5 and EVOX install.

Regards

Ian

I think its just SMB :( - I have 80ish diretories and it was OK. XBMC with the ported Samba code was even slower.

Using XNS and Relax on the server is much much quicker.

XNS, Relax ??? tell me more :)

can I run the relax server on the pc in conjunction with XBMP ??? if so its worth a try. Trying to get my chill room in a state where I can really chill ;) LOL

I wonder if some of my problems are restrictions in samba for file naming.

I have a subdirectory with 17 mp3s in my little test share and that hangs XBMP (so bad I have to stand up and reset the Xbox by hand and not using the controller/bios)

Weird as.

Relax Server installed - and working a treat - no MP3 directory too big - now I can really Relax (excuse the pun)

Relax works great on mine too, 60Gb of MP3's, thousands of files and it doesn't miss a beat :)

Just set it to run as a service on your PC and forget about it :)
