Anyone recommend somewhere to buy a replacement laser unit for a Playstation 2?

Alternatively are there any solderless mods I can do to a PS2 to play my backed up games ?

Well as it happens . . . I just fitted a solderless mod to my v4 PS2 at lunchtime. From PSX Services - £25 inc Swap Magic v3 Fitted and still works

Will have a better play with it later and see if its any good.

Oh, and they do replacement lasers too. But don't do that until you've done the Tweak. Are you getting Disk Read Errors ?

Dunk, post your results on here regarding the success of your solderless mod chip you've just fitted - very curious

I did the "tweak" on my PS2 *cough*. It wasn't reading DVD based games and films, but the tweak screw was hidden, while attempting to get to it, I touched part of the power supply heatsink, onto the main motherboard, and POP Merry Xmas to me, one of my pressies was the T3 DVD, sigh.

madfiddler - Doubt it was the same tweak as this doesn't involve a screw or potentiometer, just a big cog

Paula - www.psxservices.co.uk

First impressions of the solderless chip are good. 2 games backed up (WRC3 & Manhunt), 2 games working just fine

Just under £40 for a new genuine laser from PSX Services, shop around and you'll find them for £35 odd too.
