Xbox network problem - please help
#5
does it work with a crossover UTP cable linked straight from PC to Xbox (i.e. skipping out the router?)
My Xbox (Executer Pro mod) is really flaky connecting to my laptop. I use a fixed IP with a crossover cable (no hub etc). It's very fussy about what is turned on first- and sometimes I need to reboot several times until I can connect via FTP or ping it....DHCP seems to be more reliable according to friends.

Hello Mate, have a standard network here connecting to a Windows2000 DC, the firewall does not block anything outgoing but everything incoming (Besides 25 and 3389), connected the XBOX up to the LAN and it picked up a DHCP address and worked first time.
If your N/W is DHCP it should work, you dont really need to block any outgoing ports only incoming.
Sorry cant be any more help
Rgds
