Which games console: PS2, XBox, GameCube?

Thinking of getting games console for the kids 
but not sure which to get ... is the PS2 the dominant console now? Will Xbox outstrip it? Is the GameCube worth a look? What's best in your opinions?
The kids are used to playing games on the PC but as they get older it would be better for them to have their "own" games machine.
Any input / opinions welcome.

Gamecube will be best for the kiddies
PS2 is best for the peeps stuck in the past
Xbox is best for grown men who like to think they're still boys = ME

We've got all three, and whilst the Gamecube is more kiddie oriented, there are less games for it, and the controllers are quite big for young 'uns.
I'd go for a PS2 due to the wealth of games, a lot for the younger audience, and the fact that you can get most of them dirt cheap second hand.
IMHO the XBox is the better console, but aimed at a more mature audience.
All depends on how old your kids are
