Anyone know where we can buy cordless (DECT or similar) phones that will work at a distance of 3/4 mile inside buildings, as we have some temporary buildings and don't really want to stump up vast sums to BT for external extensions / leased lines or similar if we can help it.

Have looked at most of the regular DECT ones, but the range is limited to +/- 50m indoors and < 300m outdoors (in ideal conditions). Have also considered mobiles, but really want something that can be connected straight into the switchboard
and used as an extension.

In Spain, they have some with 40Km range, but not sure if this type of equipment is available / legal for use on BT systems in UK?

Any alternative ideas?

Hello

Yes you can buy them. I've seen them in shops in Tottenham Court Road with "For Export Only" written all over them.

They are illegal to use in the UK.

You can use any dect phone that supports multiple base stations/handsets. Just place the base stations at strategic points around the building and register each handset with every base. That way you would get full coverage around all of the building.

Hello

Just to add that the authorities will probably not find out that you are using one. They only get upset if they start to interfere with other things that are operating on the sam frequency as you are broadcasting.

Some of the American ones only have a range of a few miles, so that's not too bad.

you best bet is get the fone from US as they got some ultra long distance cordless. i think they were first design for farmer (that was what i was told). they got fones on 2.4, 5.0 and 5.8Ghz and you can brand like sony, panasonic, siemens and other US brand like uniden, AT&T. have a look at J&R for some of the fones.

Hello

And as I'm in California for a week starting tomorrow (assuming BA doesn't cancel the flight), I can get you one ...

Suba:

Well, I'll have a look. You'll find that the mail in rebates are only for citizens of the United States. Although I guess I could get one of my work friends to do it.

When I go to CompUsa I'll see what they have...
