Clearing XP Background Clutter
#1
I am on a mission to clear out unnecessary background processes in WinXP. I use XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8200 P4 2.4mHz 1 gig RAM, 60gB hard disk, and it still seems to take a long time to start up. I've also started running some very CPU-intensive applications (audio) and so I want to be able to lighten the CPU load from processes that I don't want so that I can run lots of groovy effects. I ctrl+alt+del and see all these processes that can't all be necessary at startup.
I finally solved the problem of getting an error message that "Support has encountered a problem" (thanks to Dell support website), which seems to have improved the startup speed somewhat. I also managed to shut down an app (sapisvr.exe) that runs in XP to allow speech recognition. It seems to be set to run automatically by some manufacturers, and is quite memory-intensive.
I've looked at the task list section on Answers that Work. Are there any other good sites for this or do any of you know any other apps that are found in XP at startup that needn't be?
Cheers!
