X-Box and On-Line Gaming
#1
Hello folks.....
I am considering buying an X-Box and would like to get into the Gotham on-line thing....
So how does it work??
At the moment i have telewest 512k Broadband service and i have it routed throughout the house served VIA a D-Ling DI-604 Broadband Router.
Can i just plug the X-Box in and play? DOes it cost? if so how much? Anything else i have missed??
Thanks in advance!
David

You need to buy the Live starter pack this instals the software on your box and gives you a years subscription to the service + the headset. You need to put a credit card number in so after the year it will cost , but I don't know how much.
As far as your networking gear goes you can either do it Internet connection share with your PC or stand alone. Config on this I'm not to sure about. I use ICS via a wireless link with BT broadband and it's great fun.
Craig.

So you get a years free subscription with the starter pack?
Can anyone post costs of the starter pack, i'll have a scour across the wen to see what i can find.
The only thing about the way my network is set up is that i have to gove each PC an IP address and set my router as the default gateway to get an internet connection.
Can you set networking preferences on the x-box? If not, if i enable DHCP on the router, will the x-box pick it up?
CHeerS!

Magic! In that case i can have all my machines running at the same time as the x-box. Well probably just the laptop.
So if i choose not to go with X-box live coz it costs me....the x-link system sounds cool. Does anyone on here use the x-link ?
Also, with regards to passing credit card details across x-box network, is it secure?

There is security built in, but it's never 'secure' make sure your card provider covers online transactions, check your bill every month and you should be fine.
