Your PS2 does not have any way of connecting to your ADSL by itself. You will need to create a small network.
I'm assuming you have a USB ADSL modem attached to your PC. You can either:
A) replace this with an Ethernet ADSL router and plug both your PC and PS2 into that or
B) you run Internet Connection Sharing on your PC like this...
PS2 -> PC -> ADSL
Either way, you'll have to install a network card into your PC. Option A is preferred, it is more reliable and means you don't have to have your PC on to use the PS2 online.
If you have a spare PC lying around then that could be used as the Ethernet ADSL router and would avoid you buying too much extra hardware.
Does any of this make any sense????

I have one of the very first ADSL lines installed in my house, the one where the engineer had to come out and install a box on the wall, Pre Filters.
The thing is this is installed in an upstairs room here my PC is and the rest of the phone lines are fed off this box, and i want to rig my playstation up to use the online gaming, can i just put a filter on my phone line or do i have to run a line up to the ADSL Box
Advice Please
Phil G

That was quick !!
This is my current configuration,
Dlink 614+ Wireless Router/ADSL Modem
ADSL Connection through the router
PC hardwired to router
Laptop Downstairs connected via wireless
All PC's have access to the Net via the router
PS2 downstairs rigged up to tele, not connected to any network
So can i connect the PS2 to the Laptop and access the Net on the wireless connection and will it be quick enough, ie Lagg
I take it i still need to buy the PS2 Network adaptor ???
thanks

Not done it myself, but I would imagine the PS2 will need a LAN connection and be connected to the router. You cannot connect it directly to the phone line.
BTW, the box the engineer fitted is simply a fixed micro-filter. Each telephone point in the house must be filtered or you will get noise on telephone calls. However, if the points scattered around the house are fed from the telephone socket on the front on the ADSL point, they will already be filtered.

you had the original 2 box alcatel setup phil ?
Just connect the wallbox (master socket replacement) to the router and from there on to your devices (computer/ps2 etc).

[re-read] you may want to put a wlan access point in downstairs so you can connect the ps2 to the router upstairs sans-cable.
something like this solution maybe ?
Probably the neatest solution.

I may be wrong but all you need is the official ps2 box + a wireless Ethernet Bridge
I run my Xbox and PS2 via ICS from my pc.
Try Dlink 810/ 810+ or linksys wet11
if you all ready have the wireless end for your laptop then the PS2 is easy from there.
Edited to say... just clicked the above link to broadbandbuyer. DONT BUY THE NETGEAR BRIDGE I had one and it stopped working very quickly. Dlink 810 has now been in place for 4 months+ no problems.
Craig.
