Has anyone tried it out yet, reviews on the later revision of software seem to say its pretty good.

Aparently you can't buy the software and load it onto your PC, you have to buy it as part of the media centre box.

Is it possible to use it to download DVD, Music, Vid etc onto the hard drive and then stream it over a network to other PC's in the house. Would you be able to view the media using windows media 9 or similar?

you are right that you cannot buy the software seperately, only part of a hardware bundle. What worries me is what do you do if it has a spak attack and dies? Do you have to pay good money after bad to get it all re-installed? Basically I understand its a version of XP that comes with a tv card and remote screen viewing capabilities. For one you can get a good TV card for less than 50 quid and what the **** is the point of carrying your screen around with you? I rather shy away from this remote viewing idea cause I am not happy that the neighbour could be into hacking your wireless LAN and is also viewing your screen as you write emails, watch Pr0n etc...

Glorified palm pilot really but thats all IMHO of course. I am sure some people will find it useful.

Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate what you are saying about the security issues Swausie, but you can lock it down with security or VPN's to keep the neighbours out

You use the Recovery CD that it comes with

End users cannot walk into PC World to buy XP ME - only OEMs can supply it with hardware. That doesn't mean you have no way of re-installing it though.
