I now have a Panasonic DVD-r Recorder, not used it yet - looking for some blank discs on the net.
I have a question, some discs will ONLY write at 4x - now, this is confusing because what if I am recording a film off the TV - surely it can ONLY record at 1x? So the discs won't work?
Or am I missing something REALLY simple??
HELP!!

The 4 times on a disc just means it will record upto at speeds upto 4 times if your burner supports, if it's times 1 then they right at the lower speed.

Pete,
Return the DVD Player/Writer back to the shop where you bought it. You are obviously not capable of dealing with even simple electronics.
As your man above said. Discs are tested and if the disk can handle being written to at 4x it gets that moniker. This means that on DVD burners on computers you can write data to it at 4x normal (film) DVD playback speed (which is 1x).
Same with CDs. You only ever play a music CD back at 1x, but CDs are now writable at 36x and probably more now.
So in your situation, just about any DVD media will work in your recorder assuming you can get the right ones, e.g. -R, +R, RAM.
Cheers

You asked to be called Stupid, so I feel that I must oblige
As above, but...
All I would suggest is, that you record the tv programme onto your hard drive first....
What happens if you get a dodgy DVDr?
they ain't like tape! they won't continue recording!! It will just bomb out and cancel the recording...
Not to mention the copyright issues of illegally duplicating a programme that has in essence, been paid for by me(the tax payer) and other simailar people...
So where do I send the invoice?
Dan

Hmmmmm - no hard drive in the machine, its a flashy stand-alone ... just an impulse buy I'm afraid, didn't think it was way more complicated than a VCR no wonder they will never take off!
It has a DVD-RAM system in it, also you can watch the earlier part of a recording as its actually recording the later piece - clever eh?
Anyway, had it 3 weeks and haven't touched it so its wasted really me and my money!
