Question

Quick question. Last time I upgraded my pc (new mb and chip) my xp install that was already running failed due to the new hardware and the way the licence key works.

This time I am only do a small cpu swap xp1900+ to xp2500, anybody now for sure whether I will need to reinstall xp or will this swap be ok. (anybody done it)

TIA.

Dave.

I did it on XP Pro and it worked fine (XP2000 for XP2400), no problems. Not sure if the same can be said for the home version . . . .

Shouldn't need to reinstall.
You may need to get a new license key from Microsoft though. Just choose the register by phone option.

I changed processor and I had to re-activate my MS office applications by throwing in the CD again

Cool

Should be fine, you will only have a probelm if you change the MB.

Talking

Thanks for the advice. No problems at all (apart from release the old heatsink). And Office xp did require the first disk being thrown at it
