No BT line... no ADSL, so you can't get out of that charge.

Eclipse do 500 Lite for £50+VAT setup and £20.38+VAT a month.

Nildram 500 Lite is same setup and £22.99+VAT a month.

Pipex have their Solo2Go setup for £17.57+VAT (includes ADSL modem), then £19.95+VAT a month (minimum 12 month contract IIRC to get that setup cost)

I'd avoid anyone charging much less than £20 per month for a service as I doubt it's financially sustainable.

Upstream bandwidth doesn't grow on trees. Not to mention ISPs are trying to run a business and make a profit, not provide a public service...

cheap they may be but you'll be basically getting what you pay for. your best bet is to find an isp that has great customer service and has a reliable connection.

Some put me off due to the 12 month contract. I wasn't sure I use the internet at home enough to justify getting BBand so I got Virgin who don't ask for any contract and are 24.99. However, you may have noticed how poor the service has been and I have been on the phone to them for nearly 15 mins waiting to speak to someone so I could cancel.

I'm going to Eclipse. We use it at work and its been faultless in nearly two years.

I pay my £26 to BT..... with my bill DD

and it's fast as **** for 512 anyway. Never bumped me off never not connected been good for 8 months now.... my connectio is a lot faster than folks just down the street with virgin, freeserve and others

so i'll pay the premium for the bettwer connection

Burt - Im assuming your going the ADSL route as your not in a cable area? Cable will be the same 12 mnth contract I believe but yo can buy cheaper speeds like 128K which is a big step up from a modem. Check somewhere like Here if you are unsure.

As the others say - ADSL needs a connected BT line whoever you go with. Having recently had mine installed the cheapest charge per month is £9.50 but £11.50 gets you Together 1 which means you can call other landlines for 6p an hour in the evenings and weekends - worth £2 more for me.

Ive been with Pipex for 2 weeks now. Had a problem with install due to previous tennant but they sorted that out in 2 days with a BT engineer visit. Seems very reliable and as fast as cable so far.

Simon.
