Help!

I wanted to use my mobile as an modem via an infrared connection to my laptop (Compaq Armada E500, running Win2k).

Reading through Technet and various other places it appears that Microsoft have withdrawn support for virtual device com ports under Win2K, making it very difficult to attach to a mobile! I managed to get hold of program that emulates the virtual com ports for Win2K, but I'm still not having much luck.

Has anyone managed to do this - if so what are you using?

Thanks
Chris

What mobile have you got mate? I've had a Nokia 6110 (and maybe a 6150) running as dial-up modems on W2000 previously.

My old E500 was the same on W2K Pro, pointed the Nokia at it, enabled IR and Windows found a new modem etc...

T68i - not to worry though now. I've got bluetooth working and this is fine. Couldn't get the blue tooth dongle to work on XP, but it works fine on W2K. That's progress for you....

I've done this with a Dell Inspiron 8000 (Win2k) and a Motorola Timeport 250e.

Had some hassle because I forgot I'd turned off the IR port in BIOS . Once I remembered this, Win2k identified the new hardware OK and I was able to connect.

This would have been with Win2k SP3.

Having similar problems hooking up my nokia 3650 with my USB ir adapter on Win2k Pro. It occasionally detects the phone and tries to connect but doesn't ever connect properly (Nokia PC phone suite says it's disconnected and won't let me continue with set-up) anyone got any ideas?
