I am thinking of giving my machine its one yearly wipe and re-install and read somewhere that it is better to partion your harddrive and have a dedicated partion for your operating system, swap file, and programme,
What do people think about this??
I currently have a 60 main harddisc, of 60 gig, a 2nd 20gig harddisc, and a 3rd 16gig hardisc.

Phil,
I always understood that it's better to have swap on it's own partition, preferably it's own disk. With a separate partion, you don't get the swap file fragmented among data files; on a separate disk, you don't get contention for the disk heads. On Linux, the swap partition has a different filesystem type.

Bashful's right but if your are asking about a PC then I do the following:
35GB O/s and swop file partition
25GB Drivers and service pack partition
10GB Data - don't need much for home
60GB for apps and games
If I need to trash the O/S then I'm not hunting around for driver disks. You may need to reinstall the apps as they will write to the registry.
