Word 2000 - 2 minutes to load a 1.8mb template?
#1
We have a VBA driven office management system powered by a rather hefty template file (1.8mb).
Today I find that on the Windows 2000 clients running this on Office 2000 it takes up to 2 minutes to pull through whereas in shameful Windows 98 it is almost instant.
I thought perhaps AV scanning was slowing it down but why in that case only on the Win2k boxes?
Any ideas?

I'm going to guess the template is stored on a WIN9X machine?
I had the same problem, and had to resort to duplicating all templates onto a 2K machine for the XP/2000 PCs to use.
The other thing I discovered is that if you move the templates from "Server 1" to "Server 2", word documents take forever to open, as they are trying to find the location the templates were in at the time that document was created.

No, each client PC has the same template locally and a mapped drive to a fileserver for saving the documents created.
I just couldn't understand why there was such a difference in performance.
