ADSL Router or Modem?

Right, need to get myself a new adsl modem, used mainly for gaming and downloads, looking on web forums seems to be a case of ignoring the usb option and going for either an internal PCI modem, or a modem/router, any advice would be welcome, also has anyone used a wireless router for gaming? Any latency issues with wireless?
