Remember, iTunes doesn't require an iPod. Lots of third part players (Creative Jukebox etc) work as a "Source" in iTunes.

At last! Nice clean interface and no messing with the Ipod.

Anyone know when I can buy songs from the shop?

Thanks

The Music Store is dependent on Apple being able to negotiate contracts for record labels in other countries. An artist may be signed to one label in the US and another in Europe, or even a different one in each European country!

The negotiation is the delay.

Is iTunes any good? A friend with a Mac raves about it (I'm not going to buy an Ipod so it will be standalone on a PC)

A bit frustrated at the lack of library facilities with WMP.

Gordo

It's very easy to navigate either by genre, album or artist

1/2 way through my cd collection

Gordo,

It's very easy to navigate. Be aware however that if you've used Windows Media Player to rip all your music, it will be encoded in WMA format which iTunes does not support. You'll have to re-rip in MP3 or AAC format.

Cheers,
Alex

itunes looks really good in the way it displays genre/artist/track name etc but over the years a lot of my tunes have been obtained from various different sources and dont have the ID3 tags. As i have just over 8000 tunes on my pc i dont fancy editing them manually to display nicely in itunes so does anybody know of a good application for getting the id3 tags from freedb or cddb or something?

iTunes will do it!

Highlight the songs that you wish to be tagged, go to 'Advanced' and select 'Get CD Track Names' (you must be online to do this - broadband definitely recommended!).

There are a few songs that won't be recognised - probably those that have been obtained illegally - but I've only come across this on a few occasions, and I have 3,200+ songs in my library.

Once you've seen how good iTunes is, think of all of the other iApp's us Mac users get to use
Trash your PC and go buy a Mac!

well first impressions were a tad disappointing as it seemed no different, until i started using it properly and boy is it fast!!!!
Only had it running for an hour so far and it flies.
Everthing openms that much quicker, the fast user switching is awesome and it seems much much better. But early days and we shall see.
Will post some more details later for you lot who have to wait till Friday

How did you install it? - Did you wipe your computer clean and then install it, or did you just upgrade?

Which machine are you running it on?

Andy
I have it running on a G4 Dual 1GHz with 2GB of DDR memory. The current OS was 10.2.8 (the ethernet fix version)
The mac was pretty fast as it was under Jaguar but it now flies under Panther.
As the mac had just recently been rebuilt i decided that the upgrade would be suitable. If you have a fragmented system you may want to either do the clean install but preserve your settings or do a wipe and install. If it is the last option please remember to back up (i know you know that already but you cant be too careful)
If you are going to wipe, then log in as root and copy everything to a new drive.
The install takes about 30 mins all told(shorter if you deselect install options)
You get our friendly install assitant once finished and then the fun begins.
I have only had 2 hours to play with it so far, but if you have a fast mac, then the fast user switching will keep you amused for hours!!!
Boot up is faster, app opening is faster, the finder takes some getting used to but is ok.There is the full version of iChatAV and tons of other stuff.
Will post more later

iTunes - hmmm, more like noTunes!

If I bung in a CD it reads it fine. If I use Import or try and drag things to the library then it just ignores me. No errors just doesnt do it? Even poxy RealPlayer can manage it from this CD?

molds
It should read and import just fine.
I have just put a cd in which is a cd which is non-commercial and it worked fine.
Check that your preferences are set to importing/use mp3 encode and see if that works. Also make sure that the songs on the cd are ticked for import.
if no joys email me

Hmmm, very odd.

You can see the Import reading down the tick list very quickly.

I have set it to MP3 and the list is definitely ticked.

This is a commercial CD but it works OK in other pleyers.

Maybe iTunes doesnt like my CD-ROM?

Edited: Sorry you said email. Doh!
