Unhappy

We have a really weird problem that I cannot solve. I've spent hours playing and browsing newsgroups etc. but no info.

Right the problem we have.

We have Novell on all our office workstations (about 200 in total) and most connect to a main bespoke Oracle database. All the workstations use Zenworks and the Novell Application Window. Right with me so far?

All the users have an icon in their NAL window that points to an Oracle file (ifdbg60.exe) to start the login procedure to our bespoke oracle database.

Anyway, when the users login and try and run a printable report they receive this error FRM-21011:PL/SQL unhandled exception ORA-06502.

If the users however do not use the Novell icon and browse directly to the file (ifdbg60.exe) and login to the database as normal, they are able to run printable reports and do not receive the error above. Does anyone know what fixes the FRM-21011:PL/SQL unhandled exception ORA-06502 error. I am going nuts at the moment

We have tried different printers, different users etc. It is worth noting that this problem only occurs on the Windows 2000 machines and does not happened on our Windows 98 machines

Anyone got any ideas or tips? Please?

Many thanks
Darren

I know StueyB is a bit of a whizz with Novell.

Try emailing him.

rogp - Thanks mate, I'll try and find his e-mail address.

Sonic - I have looked right through our policies as I thought this first off. The problem still occurs even if logging on as an Admin to the Novell Servers (which I am) if loading the icon from the Novell windows. Load the oracle DB from the Windows shortcut regardless of Novell profile, local windows 2000 account and it works a treat

I am going to create a Metalink account tomorrow and have a look through the Oracle site as Google and the Novell site brought up nothing.

Darren

Any recent changes to the LOCAL security policies of the Windows 2000 clients?

Installed SP4 by any chance?

Is the file running locally or from a network drive

Are the files in the application object read only or do the user's have the correct writes to the NAL application,

Try recreating the application object incase it is corrupt causing access problems to the files.

Just guessing really but if you have problems finding a cure I can ask one of the guru's at work, they look after the 4500 user network with over 2000 NAL distributed applications.

How is the application published through NAL? Is it just a simple shortcut? What's the path for the app (local or UNC to server?)

Simplest diagnostics steps are login as network admin and login as workstation admin.

The check the settings for the application (environment variables for example). Create a new application object and keep it simple.

What version of the Novell client and NAL are you using? I'd try an older (or newer version - IIRC 4.9 is the latest client)

Check the working directory on the NAL icon, it should point to the directory that you are running the .exe from.
