HI folks, been offered a new memory ram for my pc it is 128mb - pc133 at an ultra cheap price off £10 !! question is ?? is this what I need ???
pc spec is as follows : packard bell club 66
processor 450 mhz amd-k6-2, cache 512kb l2
hard disc drive 5.1 gb udma
32mb ram incl. 4 mb shared video memory
expansion : 2 times pci slots
anyone advise me asap if this memory is the one I need ?? also from the spec given, what would be the next thing to upgrade within the pc that wont cost me much ????? or is it too old to bother upgrading ?? not a lot off actual pc work done on it, mainly internet with a few file / picture downloads, a few older games etc.
cheers for any advice folks, it would be appreciatted.

Best thing to do, is to go onto packard bells web site, look your specific model up and see what memory it takes. Or have a look at existing in your PC for any description markings.
RAM will certainly help, more so if you are using W2K or XP.
(256mb or 512mb would see good gain in performance.)
If you are using W98 or less, installing any more than 128MB wont significantly increase performence. Where as, if using w2k / xp it will.

http://www.crucial.com will point you in the right direction, just use the drop down lists to find your particular PC, it will then tell you what memory you can use.

the memory your running at the mo. would more than likely be pc100 so running pc133 would be fine as its backward compatible.
as to your question about upgrading, your best option would be just to buy a new computer as you can pick them up for a few hundred quid. theres no point in upgrading as what ever you upgraded would get bottle necked by the rest of your computer.

How can you put DDR in a 450mhz ? - this was before DDR memory existed - bar high end graphics cards.
The existing memory can only be pc100 or pc133 and pc133 is backward compatible - but can still cause problems with bios autodetection. Make sure you set all memory channels in bios to pc100.

Plus if you are going to open it to upgrade it, do it now and look for motherboard controller chip - will tell you chipset manufacturer and model - search in google - sorted.
