Of course since the format I lost my little trick in the registry to stop messenger working and to speed up outlook.
I've created a new D-word
but have forgotten the title and also what number should be assigned to it.
I've tried "disable messenger" and "0" but it didn't work so thought I'd best ask before I kill it again.

To stop messenger running when I start Express, I did the following....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Create a new DWORD and name it Hide Messenger
Make the Value 2
Or to stop messenger starting with XP..
