Dvd burner dilemma

I have been able to get hold of a 2 speed dvd burner and have the following dilema,
I have 2 systems a laptop(1ghz 256mb ram) and a via epia mp3 jukebox thing (800mhz 256MB ram) now do I use the burner in one of those IDE USB converter things or do I get a new case and use the burner on my itx system.
what to do, help please...
