There are so many hosts offering great deals these days... I could not begin to advise you who to go with. However, I have been with my current host for over 3 years now and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are based in the US and they are called F5 Hosting

You always get personal service and they are hardly ever down. They support all the major services such as MYSQL and PHP etc.

Check them out.

There are many that offer cheaper but larger packages but who says they are reliable!

Here is a screeny of my control panel for my site.. as you can see there is also an automatic insallation of a Bulletin Board - that one is actually PHPbb but under the CGI Script option, there is also Invision Board. I have used the PHPbb option before now but chose to install IB myself (for the experience more than anything). Lots of other automatic install scripts available too

I'm sure Shaun will be along soon but . . .

This BBS software has actually been designed and coded in-house (by us). It has been written in a combination of HTML, ASP & MYSQL.

You can email me direct on Shaun@scoobynet.co.uk

Thanks DJ Dunk,

I've just started to look into the viability/cost of starting a Cycling BBS, to be run/sponsored by our company for cyclist's.

It would be great to have a BBS as good as Scoobynet.

I was hoping for a software solution out the box that we could configure/customise... any recommendations.

Andrew

Why don't you email Shaun/Simon and ask for a copy? I'm sure that they would be happy to sell & license you for its use.

Might want to checkout Invision Board, It's very fast and got some great features and is free (I use it for my forum) Or if you don't mind spending you could use Vbulletin which is either $85 a year or $160 to buy.

I vote for InvisionBoard too. I have it on two of my sites. It's free, has way better functions than this BBS and looks great.

If you want a play, use my happy beaver one

It basically comes as zip files that you unload to a location on your HD and then upload to your site. You will need basic knowledge of tables for MYSQL... If I can do it anyone can It comes with foolproof instrucitons so don't panic. When it's all installed, they you can play around with the colour scheme or install a new skin. The buggery bit is altering the logo but if you are aufait with some paint package you will be fine.

You'll also need to make sure the webserver you're using supports whatever you're installing.

So the bbs thing is free how much would you have to spend on webspace to host it?
