Is there any way you can send a message so it will appear on another computers screen?

they are on the internet now and so am i - i would like to have a laugh!!

Anyone with a clue will be blocking popups tho, so it probably won't work if your intended target has either disabled messenger, or is firewalling the appropriate stuff.

full syntax
NET SEND {name | * | /DOMAIN[:name] | /USERS} message

or more simply for internal networks
net send username message

or for across the net
net send IP message

To block them Start>Run>Services.msc This will display the current services. Browse for the Messenger service and dissable it. Or make sure your netbios ports are blocked (135 - 139, 445)
Make sure you block 135 as most netbios blocks are 137-139. 2K and XP now use RPC on 135 to do the lookup.
