Guys,
Apparently we live just too far from our digital exchange for BT to supply Broadband.
Unlike other areas in Worcester, this isn't a case of campaigning to get coverage by getting enough people to sign up.
What the hell do I do now, as there's no cable TV supply in Worcester and no foreseeable plans for it!

I've certainly tried the BT & Freeserve tel no/post code line tests.
Can't seem to find one on ADSL Guide.
(Edited coz being broadband-less is bad for my spelling!)

Go to ADSL Guide and look on the "find your local exchange" thing. It may be that some areas in your post code are too far out but you are not. Ideally you'd want a full line test done to confirm you are too far out.
Check the numbers of businesses close to home (ie. takeaway, video shop, newsagent) to see if they have availability.
Don't give up just yet!
EDITED cos I couldn't find the Exchange Finder, I'll look later when I get home from work!

Have you been on ADSL Guide?
I presume you've done this through the number/post code checker rather than a line test?

"Broadband is currently available in your area. However, the service will only work on a combined underground cable and telephone line distance of approximately 5 kilometres. The BT records show that the total distance to your premises is longer than this, which means that we are not able to offer you this service."

Same boat as me Rick, currently looking into Broadband Satellite which seems to be the only alternative but it does seem to have some issues.

Hiya Simon!
'ere that Shift-light doesn't work - so I aint paying ya yet! Will be borrowing a multi-tester to see if the PCB actually outputs a live feed.
Satellite broadband sounds expensive.
I'm about to start a foundation degree course in e-business and could do with decent access instead of my crappy 36kbps.

The other way to find distance from your exchange was to locate your local BT exchange and use AutoRoute to get a rough distance.
If you don't know where your local exchange is, try the Royal Mail post code finder and seach in your local area for "British Telecom". That should list the local exchange.
That said, just because you're next to an enabled exchange doesn't mean you're line connects to that one...

Andy,
Cheers mate! There's an "extended reach" offer on at the moment, for people beyond 5Km from their exchange!
I'll have a word with the missus and we may well try it.
For anyone else in the same boat, try this:

finding your local exchange and then seeing how far you are on a a-z wont work cables often go along way away from your house before they finaly reach your socket it also depends on how ****e your underground cable is from the exchange its measured in decibel loss over the distance from exchange to socket
