What are the reasons u require an upgrade for ??
Gaming, CAD, Graphic design ??
Is it slower than when u first had it ?
if u just want to spend money then , get a quicker processor; but as u say see what the mobo will support.
But as u say u havent much cash, i would think why is it slow ?
What operating system are you running ?

runnin win2k, need it faster mainly for graphic work and games
its not slowed due to fragmentaion or anythin as i regularly defrag it and occasionaly re format the drives etc...
