XP Folder Question

After having to reinstall XP Pro and installing all of the MS updates, I have a folder on my C: drive called:
cb0e21c5f918bc22d5ce0d85
which has three sub-folders:
common
sp1
sp2
All of these are "access denied" folders.
Can I delete these, if so how?

I am doing, for now, but I wondered as I have installed these updates on several machines and this is the only one that appears to have developed a case of additional folderitis.
