Problem with DVD player on PC

The DVD play reads CDROM, Music Cds and VCDs with out a problem but it wont play DVDs. Iv tried einstalling the software (power DVD) but it didnt help. Anybody have any ideas?

Are you getting any error messages ? Does the machine appear to be reading the disk (i.e. is the light flashing on the front when disk is inserted)
