folks,
i have a gateway solo 2300 (P166)laptop. it was running win98 and you could go into the display control panel and set the output as TV out. you can also press FN-F3 on the keyboard. so, it was changable by hardware and software.
now, i installed win2000 and the display driver didn't work so i lost the ability to change the display mode in software.
i've stripped the laptop down for a project that will mean no keyboard is connected.
problem - it boots (unchangable!) into LCD mode. i need to change it to TV out mode automatically.
so, could some smart person tell me an easy way to monitor the keyboards output signals and then i can build some hardware to simulate the signal (all seems like an impossible amount of work).
or, ideally changing it by writing a software routine (though the company that makes the gfx card is no longer making gfx cards so i guess even a longshot of contacting them about routines is dead)
i think i'm beat but it doesn't hurt to post here anyways
steven
p.s. i guess a last option would be a VGA to PAL/NTSC converter. anyone know of any cheap ones? (even a DIY circuit diagram?)

The toshiba sattelite pro (2450-201) has a specific button, separate to the keyboard, for changing the signal output.
Wonder if it's worth you having a look at the way that is rigged up ?
might be able to wire yours the same?
Just a thought!
