Just bought myself a Western Digital Raptor.

Plugged the SATA cable in, along with the legacy power cable (says I can use either power socket but not both) no probs...

I took out my clunky 2 HDD's and reset the BIOS

Thought I'd do a fresh install,
XP cd in and..... No hard disks detected

Stumped !

Andy <wishing I'd just FIXED the old pc >

I assume you would need to make driver disks for the SATA controller. When XP cd starts up, it gives you the option of F6 to install drivers. You need to do this.

Id did wonder WTF it was on about when it said "INSTALL DRIVER DISK IN A:"

It didn't come with any driver disks

Didn't realise I had to create them myself.

OK, so how do I do that

Iirc, you have an Asus board. You should have a cd with bios/drivers etc.. on. Follow the instructions from there.

You could always try and download the newest version off the net which might be better if they released some.

btw the F6 key option appears very near the start of the cd booting up, it appears at the bottom of the screen and you have a few seconds to press it. You need to install it here and not later on, or am I thinking of NT4...

Have fun

Unhappy

When you autorun the cd and click install sata drivers, it should bring up a text file telling you what to do?

If sata is enabled, then you should see a screen on boot up about sata detecting drives?
