Just had a user wander in with a home PC running XP Home edition which wont boot. Not done much XP fault finding due to using W2k here at work so not really sure where to start. Wont boot in normal mode or safe mode. Stops on what appears to be an AGP***.sys driver if you boot in safe mode. Any ideas where to start chaps and chappesses

Boot with your xp cd disk (if you have it)Let it get to the first setup screen and pick xp setup (not repair) then the second screen should give you the option of either setup or repair. Pick repair by pressing R and this will reinstall winxp. You won't loose any data.

Similar thing has happened to me this week. PC refused to boot in any mode. Plucking at straws I removed my CDRW (Acer 2010) and it booted straight away (cd/DVD in place). Still can't get it to boot with CDRW , that's another post though.

Gave up trying to get the repair to work. TOok the disk out and put it in my PC as a slave, no viruses, nothing obvious missing... Seems a bit weird this one!

You could try reseting the BIOS to default. Worked for me once when some scanky bit of free software decided to change it for me

Wink

You get NTFS with XP home too
You dont get things like file encryption with home though but af the bargain price i got home for im not too bothered (they didnt have pro in at the time but that would have been around 120 quid rather than the 80 i paid for mine).
