I needed to make a quick change to a website, so it opened up the html file in Word - When I make a 3 word alteration and resave the file size has jumped from 4K to 10K - Its only plain text with a little html formatting.

Just proves what bloatware this Micro$haft stuff is.

Just had to vent my annoyance

I'm afraid that's what happens when you use a word processor as an html editor. It chucks in loads of unnecessary formatting stuff, (needed so that Word can edit the pages successfully). If you want to update html pages, you'd be much better off using a proper html editor like frontpage (or preferably notepad ). They do a much better job.

never use any microsoft stuff to do webpages unless you're a total novice.

their products add all kinds of crap to you html file that you're not aware of

I would recommend macromedia dreamweaver, homesite or notepad

Cool

In my experience, they all do much the same. The only editors I use and trust these days are notepad, and a Java IDE !! (writing servlet driven websites etc).

I dunno, the Java IDE I use (Intellij Idea) is nice because it automatically indents stuff, highlights the tags, colours the code nicely etc, but doesn't add anything that you don't want it to...

Thumbs up

you can't beat dreamweaver. having the source code in one window and the dtp style in another is the only way to fly...

Well it is a proper editor when you compare it to word.

Still, notepad is the king

Another vote for TextPad. Bit like Notepad but with some smarts. see it here. Big benefit for me is that it will do block editing.

Cheers
