Playing games..

What sort of spec PC do you need for games playing these days? Happily gone without anything but work's laptop for the last 6 years... but now I have broadband (work again!) I'm getting the urge to play online...
Massively out of date, so any advice appreciated..
Can you get laptops that'll play decent games these days?

you can get laptops but they'll cost you a bomb - -i've just been looking.
I think it depends on what games you want to play - P3 800/256 ram/64 meg graphics will play most of the older batch - wolfenstein/Mohaa etc though quality may be a bit iffy.
If you want to play the likes of doom3 & halflife 2 I think you are into p4/512/128 territory.
There's plenty of gamers on here, I am sure you will get a better idea from them.

Laptops are getting better though unless you have something like an "Alienware" laptop many other makers cater for business other than gamers.
Though there are some geforce 64meg cards out there and they handle most new games released.
Base unit I have for games 128 mg geti4600, 1024 ram, 3.06, 140 gig hard drive. No problems at all with any of the latest games.
