Had broadband for about a month and very happy with it. But today the upload is running at 13kps!!!! It takes ages to send even the smallest of emails.

Is my pc screwed or is freeserve adsl going through a bad time today.

Can anyone who uses freeserve adsl confirm that it is freeserve to blame?

It will always depend on how may other people are using the service. The biggest problem is the contention ratio. Contention issues will occur at the DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) - this is situated in the telephone exchange and as the name suggests, this is the point where the DSL lines are terminated, grouped together and passed to your service provider. If there are a lot of people using the service, then the amount of bandwidth available will be split to accomodate the number of users. Obviously, the more users, the less bandwidth each person gets - hence congestion and slower responses.

Try loggin on at different times, if you still get the problem occuring then it might be worth speaking to Freeserve.

Well I think it is a problem with freeserve and then beyond. I can send emails to freeserve, but anywhere else, I get timed out.
Just been on Xbox live and the upload was 240, download 537 and no problems at all. Come back onto the pc and the internet and even though my download is around the 500 mark, the upload is a paltry 13kbs, instead of the more normal 240ish mark.
It is not slow browsing the internet or even downloading, it is the upload speed that is the problem. I can ping the freeserve server fine and get a quick response, anywhere else and it fails.

Looks like it is a problem with freeserve, as my upload request are certainly getting to their servers, it is what they do with it next which is causing the delays. Does that sound a feasible explanation?
