Roxio Easy CD Creator Problems
#1
Hi all,
I have beeen using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.1 Basic for all my cd burning and everything has went well up until now. I am running Windows 2000 Professional and using a Hitachi DVD Drive and a Memorex CD Burner.
When I try to use the CD Copier feature to copy a CD with the source CD in the DVD Drive and a CD-R in the burner I get the following message:
"Roxio CD Copier can't get the necessary cdrom information. CreatorAPI returns failure"
And when I try to format a CD using Direct CD i get the following:
"Error: Reserve Device. Device is reserved by another process. Drive reported an unknown error. You will not be able to read and write to the CD through Drive Letter Access"
So far I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Easy CD Creator but with no sucess. I've also had a look at the devices in Device Manager and everything seems OK. I've also had a look in the Event Viewer and the following Warning is listed twice:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Removable Storage Service
Event Category: None
Event ID: 163
Date: 03/06/2003
Time: 11:47:05 PM
User: N/A
Computer: APTIVA
Description:
Received Handle Query Remove Failure notification.
RSM failed to acknowledged the event.

0020: 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff ....˙˙˙˙

I don't know if that is of any relevance to my problem. I've also tried all sorts of CD-R's and its still the same.
Help!!!!

had major problems with my roxio installation too:
i applied the v5.3.4.21 patch from teh website and i have to stop any non-essential services (windows 2000) that are running (print spooler, dhcp, antivirus etc) to make it more reliable.
some of that may help.
andy.

Under Device Manager and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, select the IDE channel that the CD-ROM's are connected, and under the 'advanced settings' tab select your Transfer Mode to be 'PIO only' for both units. If already set to PIO, try them on 'DMA if available'
See what happens, might not work, but I had a similar problem with HP drives on XP.
